Product FAQ

No. The room mockups and stock artwork in our product slides were created by other artists and used with permission for demonstration purposes only. We source our stock artwork from pexels.com and unsplash.com, and we have noted the artists’ names on the product slides if you are interested in using a particular piece of artwork in your own projects. We source most of our room mockups from creativemarket.com, and we particularly like the assets created by “MyHomeMockups.” Please be sure to carefully read and abide by each third-party artist’s and/or website’s own license terms as they may differ from ours.

We originally created our Frame + Matting Mockup Kits so we could mockup our own images and show our custom framing/matting clients exactly what their framed artwork would look like before they purchased it. So if a client requested a 12″ x 18″ print with 3″-wide forest green matting and a 1-1/4″ silver metal frame, we could mock up their request exactly to their size and color specifications. We found that the most commonly requested artwork size was 12″ on the short size (12×12, 12×18, 12×15 [8×10]), the most common matting width was 3″ or narrower, and the most commonly requested frame width was 1-1/4″ and 3/4″. So that is the sizing we used for these templates.

You can use the Photoshop software measurement tools with these templates to mockup up larger or smaller artwork to scale too. You accomplish this by changing the matting widths and/or by masking out parts of the frames to create narrower frames as needed. We later created a Matting Expansion Pack so we could create mockups for customers that wanted wider matting – something that isn’t easily accomplished with the 3″ matting already included in this mockup kit (you can easily go narrower but not wider with the 3″ matting included in this mockup kit.)

Using the Photoshop software measurement tools and creating layer masks requires slightly more advanced skills. We hope to create an instructional video that shows how to accomplish this, but in the meantime, feel free to reach out to us if you need help.

There is no need for transparency with the files in this mockup kit. The matting elements in every file cover the entire canvas, so you can place your final mockups on any color page.

If you have a basic knowledge of the Photoshop software interface and using layers, you should have no trouble creating basic mockups with this mockup kit. If you want to move your matted artwork into a frame mockup file, doing so requires a more intermediate understanding of the Photoshop software, as does employing some of the more intricate mockup customization (matting size changes for example.) However, all of our Digital Creative Tools include a very detailed user guide (written by a professional technical writer), which we think doubles as a Photoshop software tutorial! We believe you will learn a lot about the Photoshop software and be able to create more advanced mockups simply by following the steps in the user guide. We are happy to answer basic questions via email, and we also provide 1:1 post-processing coaching if you would like to take your Photoshop software skills to the next level. Please visit our Coaching page for more information.

Yes, that is the beauty of templates that use Smart Objects to place artwork, which ours do! For instance, all of the artwork you see in our product slides was in the sRGB color space when we placed it in these templates. Even if you are a beginner, the detailed user guide (included) will walk you through the steps of properly placing your artwork in a template and exporting your finished work.
